Google joins Open Document alliance

Google has joined hands with the OpenDocument Format (ODF) Alliance to promote an open document format standard. This will allow users to open documents regardless of the application they were created in. As of now, only Google’s online word processor Writely.com is part of the ODF.

As documents and services are increasingly transformed from paper to electronic form, there is a growing problem among organisations to be able to access retrieve and use critical records, information and documents in the future. This particular endeavour from Google should give Writely an edge over others.
