Tape drive

HP StorageWorks DAT 40 USB tape drive

This tape drive is a backup solution for small servers and workstations. The DDS-4 tape drive can store 20 GB native and 40 GB of compressed data (2:1 compression) on a single cartridge at a rate of 23 GB/hr (assuming 2:1 compression).

The drive has a native USB 2.0 interface. HP claims that this drive can be installed in 60 seconds. It is available both as an internal and external stand-alone drive. The drive can also read and write other DDS formats.

Some of the other features of the product include data transfer rate of 10 GB/hr native, as well as TapeWare XE for backup and One-Button-Disaster Recovery (OBDR).

Unistal Quick Recovery

This automated data recovery software is meant for small users as well as large enterprises. It recovers in three steps—analysis, select and save. Quick Recovery claims to require no special training and can be utilised by any computer user. It is claimed to have a guided file excavation technology (GFETCh) which can recover files and folders behind overwritten partitions.

Unistal says that data can be recovered even from bad floppies. With hard drives, the product claims to simulate previously existing partitions to recover data from bad sectors.
