BPCL wins award for IT

National Petroleum Management Programme
(NPMP) awards instituted in an effort to identify, recognise
and encourage excellence among enterprises in public
sector oil and gas companies were presented by Petroleum
& Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj minister Mani Shankar
Aiyar recently. The award for the most effective and
innovative use of IT for improving overall corporate
efficiency was received by R P Singh, ED (IIS), BPCL.
BPCL has become the first oil company globally to upgrade the SAP R/3 system
from 4.0b to the enterprise version with zero downtime and without affecting
routine business operations. The project was completed by the ERP team within
the budgeted time and at a cost of Rs 10 crore. It involved many challenges
such as training about 3,000 users spread over 330 sessions at 28 centres across
India in a short period of nine weeks.
The organisation has also deployed innovative systems in the areas of financial
management, SCM, anti-spam and IM.
