PC sales in India cross 3.6 million units
MAIT has announced the findings of its Industry Performance Review for the
financial year 2004-05. The survey, conducted jointly with IMRB, reported that
the desktop PC market grossed sales of 3.63 million units, registering a growth
of 20 percent over the last fiscal.
The growth in PC sales can be attributed to a significant consumption by industry
verticals such as telecom, banking & financial services, manufacturing,
retail and BPO. Other factors that led to the growth in sales were the major
e-governance initiatives of the central and state governments, and the drop
in prices, especially at the entry-level, which saw the emergence of a strong
household market.
Consumption of PCs with alternative processors grew by 20 percent in absolute
terms.
Overall printer sales grew by 12 percent over that in FY 2003-04, while the
UPS market grew by 48 percent over 2003-04.
