Cubix PN9108

The PN9108 (Power over the NET) from Cubix Micro Systems is a control unit that is said to provide remote power management for eight AC outlets via a TCP/IP connection. A local and remote user can log in simultaneously from the LAN or the Internet by using a browser GUI.

Each server connected to an AC port can be individually restarted or shut down without affecting other connected servers. Up to 15 additional stations can be daisy chained.

PN9108 has an adjustable front panel to fit in a 1U rack. The unit works with the Altusen SN0108/SN0116 Serial over the NET. PN9108 comes with a plug-and-play set-up with no additional software required. The unit also has built-in features such as automatic port ID identification and password protection.

Network Appliance has launched two new midrange storage systems—the NetApp FAS3020 and the FAS3050—and a new serial ATA (SATA) option for primary storage applications. The company has also launched two new V-Series virtualisation engines—the NetApp V3020 and the V3050. These new solutions, combined with Data ONTAP 7G software, address problems such as high storage acquisition costs, low storage resource utilisation, and increasing storage management costs. The FAS 3000 series has a storage capacity up to 84 TB and 336 disks.

Firebox X Peak

WatchGuard Technologies Inc has launched its line of security appliances, the Firebox X Peak, which includes three models—X5000, X6000 and X8000.

Firebox X Peak offers up to 1 Gbps firewall throughput, 10 ports that allow segmentation of high-value operations, port independence, up to four external interfaces, and integrated firewall/VPN. Running on the appliance is Fireware Pro, a security and network operating system that offers layered security, dynamic routing and traffic management.

The company has also launched a new Gateway AntiVirus and Intrusion Prevention Service (GAV/IPS). This signature-based security option identifies and blocks malicious network traffic and code. Additional security features such as gateway antivirus, intrusion prevention, and Web content filtering can be added.

Cisco Systems has launched the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) 5500 Series, a family of multi-function security appliances. This series includes Cisco ASA 5510, Cisco ASA 5520 and Cisco ASA 5540.

The ASA 5500 series offers VPN services that allow remote access IPSec and SSL VPN capabilities, as well as site-to-site IPSec services. It delivers adaptive threat defence services including anti-X defences, application security, and network containment and control.

Macromedia Breeze 5

Macromedia has launched Macromedia Breeze 5, which delivers online conferencing and collaborative Web communications. According to the company, the product features a simple user interface, and can be deployed without changing the existing client infrastructure, as Flash Player is already deployed on multiple platforms, including Windows, Macintosh and Linux.

Breeze 5 includes VoIP, on-demand video, and real-time, multipoint video conferencing. Breeze also incorporates deployment features such as wizard-based directory service integration, single sign-on support through NTLM or custom-authentication mechanisms, APIs and SDKs for customisation and extensibility, as well as the ability to support large-scale events for up to 2,000 participants.

Macromedia claims that Breeze 5 is already JITC-certified for government users.

SafeNet has launched its SafeEnterprise SONET/SDH encryptors in India. SONET is used for data, voice and video applications including data backup, remote storage and disaster recovery. The SafeEnterprise SONET/SDH encryptors support transmission over spans of 2 km (short range), 15 km (intermediate range), and 40 km (long range). It provides fibre-speed encryption at up to 10 gigabits per second. The SafeEnterprise SONET/SDH encryptors come in four varieties at speeds of OC3, OC12, OC48 and OC192. They can be used for multi-point high-speed data transmission, disaster recovery and storage area networks. The SONET/SDH encryptor employs an encryption-standard algorithm and meets common criteria EAL 4 and FIPS 140-2 accreditation.

D-Link has launched a range of Power over Ethernet (PoE)-compatible Ethernet products. The products include PoE adapters (DWL-P50, DWL-P100, DWL-P200), Wireless Access Points (DWL-2700AP, DWL-2210AP) and Web Smart Switch (DES-1316).

D-Link PoE adapters have an operational range of up to 100 metres. The PoE switches are equipped with 16 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet ports, eight of which support 802.3af PoE.

Oracle Identity Management suite

Oracle has launched the Oracle Identity Management suite that aims to safeguard information, critical systems and applications from unauthorised access. The suite can serve as the security backbone for Oracle Fusion Middleware.

The new release brings together identity management capabilities from Oracle and Oblix. It includes enhancements to the components. First comes Oracle COREid Access and Identity that has updated support for IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic portal servers. Oracle COREid Federation has incremental Oracle Database and SQL Server support for federated identity information. In Oracle COREid provisioning, the Oracle Internet Directory-provisioning platform has been certified. Additional agents for .NET, TIBCO and WebSphere are available in the Oracle Web Services Manager.
