HP StorageWorks

HP recently introduced a simple, high capacity IP-based storage solution. Specially targeted at the Asia Pacific market. The new solution will deliver the benefits of SAN storage to the mass market.

The two entry-level HP StorageWorks IP Storage 500 and 1500 solutions provide businesses with a low cost, quick to install and easy to use network storage solution leveraging on the inexpensive Ethernet infrastructure.

HP offers standards-based, open Internet Protocol (IP) Storage to customers. Based on industry standard hardware and software components, HP StorageWorks IP Storage 500 and 1500 solutions help drive HP's Adaptive Enterprise strategy to synchronize business and IT to capitalize on change.

The solution integrates the low cost Serial ATA disks with industry standard iSCSI technology. The HP StorageWorks IP Storage 500 and 1500 provide the entry-level storage reliability. Both HP StorageWorks IP Storage 500 and1500 are also certified by Microsoft to host Microsoft Exchange and SQL.

Based on latest serial ATA hard disk drives and industry-proven RAID technology for optimal protection, the HP StorageWorks IP Storage 500 and 1500 are available in three capacity points of 320GB, 640GB, and 1TB respectively. Both HP StorageWorks solutions come with dual operating system partitioning and a quick restore DVD to allow recovery in minutes.

EMC Celerra

The new EMC Celerra NS500 system, available in an integrated or gateway configuration, is a cost-effective entry point into the Celerra NAS family. The Celerra NS704G NAS gateway now delivers availability and performance for mid-tier NAS requirements. These gateway models let customers leverage investments in existing Storage Area Networks (SANs) and are the most cost-effective way for customers to deploy NAS.

Its features include a graphically displayed 'at-a-glance' status-monitoring capability that improves ease of use by helping administrators quickly identify potential system or performance issues. The 'at-a-glance' screen displays memory and CPU usage, performance and throughput information, the number of active network connections, information about open files, storage utilization, and more.

Additionally, through integration with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS), users can now perform file-level restores using MS Explorer's 'previous versions' property tab. This capability can lower customers' support costs by enabling users to recover their own files.
