Over the years, the traditional definition of network security has undergone a paradigm shift. In the internet era where security boundaries have blurred and data flows across the information value chain, security can no longer be an afterthought.

However, simply having a security framework doesn't ensure the security of an organization's information assets. No single product or service can comprehensively address the possible security threats to enterprise IT. Security is more of a process and mindset than a product.

Leading the organization through the veritable maze of information security is no mean task. Those entrusted with enterprise-wide security face the challenge of directing technology, policies, processes, and people towards a common goal.

The position calls for proficiency in more than just technology. It requires the foresight to predict the future and the agility to fix it. And what without strategic planning and policy making and above all ensuring participation from all levels of the organization.

A Security Strategist in short is the one that takes a holistic view about security and ensures that every employee in the organization from business leaders to users is aware of their role in the entire process.

The Objective

The SecureSynergy Security Strategist Awards have been instituted with the key objective to recognize the relentless efforts made by information security professionals (CTOs/CIOs or their equivalents) to secure their networks and information residing on those networks.

The Awards aim to highlight the criticality of security and the need for Indian enterprises to have a well-defined strategy for information protection.

A Jury consisting of industry experts and eminent people from the academia choose winners based on exhaustive interviews, some even running into two hours, where nominees are grilled to prove their claims about their information security initiatives.

SecureSynergy Security Strategist 2004 Awards will be given in four categories—Banking & Financial; General Industry; IT, ITeS and Telecom; and Small and Medium Enterprises.

Only in its second year, SecureSynergy Security Strategist Awards have become the most coveted in the industry as they have emerged as a benchmark to judge the effectiveness of security strategies of Indian organizations.

Little wonder that this year there's been a marked increased in the participation. Compared to last year's 80 applications, this year's awards received over 140 applications from India's leading companies.
