Symantec Host IDS 4.1

Symantec Host IDS is a scalable intrusion detection and prevention solution for critical servers. The IDS provides real-time monitoring, detection, and prevention of security breaches, automated policy enforcement, and incident response for servers, applications, and data. Symantec claims that the IDS can be used with firewalls and other access controls, to develop proactive policies to stop external and internal threats. New process management capabilities in the product combine multiple intrusion prevention technology functions, including process reporting, monitoring, and blocking. Process Reporter, Process Monitor, and Process Blocker are the tools for this purpose. Symantec claims that the Host IDS is highly scalable and easily managed from a single administrative console. Administrators can create and deploy monitoring and response policies, collect and archive audit logs for incident analysis and reporting, and automatically receive the latest intrusion signatures through a centralized management console. And the solution includes specialized software agents that support a variety of server platforms. Symantec Host IDS integrates with the Symantec Security Management System to provide consolidated data collection, logging, and reporting for Symantec and select third-party products.

J-Protect

Juniper Networks has launched their J-Protect network security solution. Available across the E-, M- and T-series platforms, this solution is claimed to ensure protection of the network with high levels of integration and scalability. Juniper claims J-Protect can support multiple security functions at scale without compromising performance. New capabilities within J-Protect are the following. Adaptive Services Physical Interface Card (PIC) and enhanced Tunnel Services Module bring high-performance Network Address Translation (NAT) and Stateful Firewalling to J-Protect, according to Juniper. J-Protect also has monitoring PIC (M-PIC) to deliver flow monitoring. Port Mirroring in the E-series is claimed to simplify traffic monitoring and analysis.

CONTENT SECURITY
MIMEsweeper

Miel e-Security offers the MIMEsweeper family of content security solutions. The solutions sit on the gateway and mail servers to implement content security policies for e-mail and Web. The solutions are MAILsweeper for SMTP, and MIMEsweeper for the Internet. MAILsweeper can do SMTP mail routing and relay. It can also block spam, porn images and confidential company content. It also offers the ability to check encrypted mails as an add-on facility. MIMEsweeper can do URL filtering and content filtering. Miel claims that these solutions can provide up-to-the-minute detailed and informative graphical reporting with the help of powerful reporting tools.

SPAM PREVENTION SERVICE
Trend Micro

Trend Micro's Spam Prevention Service uses heuristic technology to evaluate, identify and monitor existing and new spam, calculating the probability that a particular message is spam, based on the collective occurrence of a set of e-mail characteristics. Trend Micro claims that the service is designed to provide 90-95 percent spam capture rates with low false positives to deliver relevant, continuous and timely spam detection, which is constantly adjusted against a grouping of 40-50 million new emails. The service provides gateway protection and works with Trend Micro anti-virus and content security. It can be deployed as a stand-alone solution or with InterScan Messaging Security Suite, ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange, or ScanMail for Lotus Notes at multiple points in the network. Trend claims the solution is able to process and analyze over 40-50 messages per second, and requires minimal hardware investment. Failover and anti-relay capabilities are also present in the product. This service has configuration options administered through a graphical user interface. Trend Micro claims that it is easy to deploy, and does not require network configuration. The service has spam disposition options to enable administrators to 'tag and deliver' suspected spam, or send it to a pre-defined administrator mailbox. It also has multiple spam categorization options and configurations, that enable IT security administrators to set various spam capture sensitivities for different categories of spam and white/black lists. Trend Micro Spam Prevention Service delivers batch reports to provide spam statistics such as overall spam volume, spam volume by category, spam volume by recipient, and spam volume by sending IP address.

Lexmark T63x series

Lexmark's T63x series includes the Lexmark T630 and the Lexmark T632, meant for medium-sized workgroups. The Lexmark T63x printers are modular in design, and can be upgraded to multifunction printers—users can add a scan, copy and fax option without reinvesting in a separate multi-functional device. These printers have a built-in PDF function that enables users to 'Drag'N'Print' PDF files directly without installing specific application software. Options such as duplex printing, mailboxes, input trays for a variety of media and finishing options such as StapleSmart Finisher and hole punchers for output and paper handling are available in T63x series. The Lexmark T630 has a 300 MHZ processor, from 32 MB up to 64 MB of standard memory, print speed 33 ppm, MFP upgradeability, and the Lexmark T630 as a duty cycle of up to 175,000 pages per month. The Lexmark T632 is a workgroup laser printer for a distributed printing environment. It offers MFP (Multifunctional Printer) upgradeability and uses a 350 MHz processor. Lexmark claims a duty cycle of 200,000 pages per month and up to 38 ppm. Lexmark offers a one-year onsite warranty for the Lexmark T630 and the Lexmark T632.
