Tape Loaders
ATL ValueLoader DLT VS80
Quantum's latest offering is the ATL ValueLoader DLT VS80. It claims that this is its first 2U rack-optimized autoloader to use the Quantum DLT VS80 half-high tape drive.

Features: The ValueLoader uses a single DLT VS80 tape drive with an eight-cartridge capacity and up to 640 GB of data storage and 21.6 GB/hour throughput.

The user interface is an LCD display which allows operation of the loader like an accessorized tape drive with a natural language, menu driven interface with a single import/export slot.

Only one drive and eight cartridges are used in the ValueLoader. There is a slot for each day of the week along with an additional slot which can be used for a cleaning cartridge or for additional capacity.

It comes with a one year Rapid Exchange standard warranty. Two- and three-year upgrades are also available.

Linux Solutions
Server Solutions
Trustix has launched their range of Linux-based server solutions for small and medium businesses (SMBs). The Trustix suite of solutions consists of firewall, LAN server, mail server, proxy server, and web server.

Features: These "plug and serve" point solutions are built on the open source Trustix Secure Linux, which is claimed to offer a higher degree of security than other distros. The solutions provide a single graphical user interface (GUI) capable of managing all point solutions. It is also possible to manage Trustix Linux solutions from native Windows/ Linux desktops. The solutions can be deployed on IBM xSeries servers, the preferred Intel-based platform.

Trustix Firewall: This is a full-featured, packet-filtering router with support for virtual private network (VPN) and port forwarding. A GUI for editing firewall policy and behavior is also available.

Trustix LAN server: The server is designed to replace or work along with existing Windows or Unix file sharing servers. It includes a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server for automatic IP address maintenance. The server has support for NFS, NIS, and Microsoft SMB protocols.

Trustix Mail Server: Comes with SMTP, IMAP and POP3 support. OpenSSL support has been provided for security. The e-mail server provides basic back office functionality through web based mail, address book, and shared calendar functionality.
Trustix proxy server: This is an internet caching server with temporary storage of web and FTP content on the LAN to speed up browsing. It has a filtering option to deny access to banned domains and sites.

Trustix web server: This is claimed to be a secure platform for delivery of web content, which is based on the Apache server.

Collaboration Suite, Release Two
The latest Collaboration Suite from Oracle is an open, secure, scalable, distributed suite providing messaging and file services. It uses the Oracle9i Platform (Oracle9i and Oracle9i Application Server).

Features: The Oracle Collaboration Suite is an integrated suite of enterprise level applications which focuses on managing all of the communications between individuals and teams, the content they create, as well as the information necessary for supporting them.

Oracle Collaboration Suite supplies e-mail, voice mail, calendaring, file services, and integrated search capabilities along with the ability to access this information from any type of interface (standard desktop clients, file protocols, web, wireless and telephone). Using the scalable Oracle9i database as the foundation, the Oracle Collaboration Suite is targeted at enterprises which have to manage this unstructured data (e-mail, documents, voice mail, web pages, multi-media, XML files, etc.).

Intel has introduced its fastest Xeon processors, exceeding 3 GHz, for dual processor servers and workstations.
Features: The Intel Xeon processor at 3.06 GHz features a 512 KB level two cache and a 533 MHz system bus and the Intel Xeon processor at 3 GHz includes a 512 KB level two cache and a 400 MHz system bus.

The Intel Xeon processor at 3.06 GHz is drop-in compatible with existing systems designed with the Intel E7501 or Intel E7505 chipsets, while the Intel Xeon processor at 3 GHz is drop-in compatible with systems designed with the Intel E7500 or Intel 860 chipsets.

BioScanner
BioScanner from BioEnable technologies is a small USB optical finger print scanner for PCs. It has been intended for use in applications such as desktop security, PC logon, banking, finance, e-business, etc.

Features: BioScanner can be integrated with applications using the Fingerprint integration kit provided with the scanner. The scratch proof and impact resistant scanner has a verification speed of less than 1 second with encryption for the fingerprint data. The scanner does not have problems verifying smeared or stained fingers.

Software for PC logon, folder encryption, and user management are provided along with the scanner. The scanner comes with ready to use applications for time attendance, membership and transaction management. A fingerprint integration kit is also
available for developers. The scanner measures 21(W)x59(H)x31(D) mm and weighs 28 grams.

Switching modules
Catalyst 6500
Cisco's new Catalyst 6500 modules are claimed to significantly upgrade the platform. It is an upgrade to the existing Catalyst 6500 generation of modules.

Features: The Catalyst 6500 series delivers secure, converged services from the wiring closet to the core to the data center to the WAN edge. The series shares a common set of modules, software and network management tools. At present, the Catalyst 6500 series supports 48 to 576 10/100 Ethernet ports delivering 210 million packets per second throughput across network cores and multiple gigabit per second trunks. It is claimed to seamlessly integrate advanced multigigabit layer 2 through 7 services.

The modules use a new supervisor engine, which is claimed to enhance the performance of the Catalyst 6500 with a new switching fabric that boosts performance to 320 Gbps, or 720 Gbps per system, 40 Gbps throughput per slot.

The modules also have new features such as IPv6 and MPLS support on the switches. The modules have been intended for use by research institutions, data centers in their core and by service providers on their edge. Other target markets are large corporates, campuses, educational institutes, and development companies.
