Superloader with SDLT 320
Quantum recently launched SuperLoader with a SDLT 320 drive. The SuperLoader with SDLT 320 allows customers to take advantage of high density, capacity, and performance all in a 2U rack mount form factor. This can help lower TCO and protect storage investment. The SuperLoader caters to small businesses, remote offices and workgroups, providing data protection through remotely managed and automated backup. The backup and recovery software allows to consolidate multiple backup targets into a single shared, automated system.

Features: The SuperLoader can scale up to 5.12 TB (with 2:1 compression) of data protection and transfer rates of 115 GB/hour. It is backward read compatible with DL Tape IV media and uses the same Super DL Tape I media as the SDLT 220, preserving the customers' data storage investments. Customers can upgrade from existing DLT1 or SDLT 220 SuperLoaders to SDLT 320 drives without a service call. Another product on offer from Quantum is DX30 a disk-based Enhanced Backup System (EBS) that emulates a tape library for backup of data. The DX30 considerably reduces backup data time along with shorter and reliable restoration of data. It also provides extension to the life of an existing tape backup system, already installed in the enterprise

These solutions take advantage of the falling prices for disk storage to establish disk-based backup between the primary storage system and the tape-based library. Backup software continues to operate as it always did, it now writes to disk rather than tape. With the disk's faster performance, backups can be accomplished in much less time. Further, the higher reliability of disks allows backups to be conducted without manual intervention. Once the data is backed up to disk, it can be archived to tape whenever the organization specifies.
