Launches India Operations
US
based MobiApps; a provider of wireless
communications technology has launched its operations in India
by opening a development center in Bangalore.
MobiApps Incorporated is a wholly owned Indian subsidiary,
with its current operations in Arlington, Virginia and Singapore.
The Bangalore operations will work on developing next generation
wireless technologies.
The company will promote both product developments as well
as fundamental technology research in the field of wireless
protocol stacks for GPRS, WTLS and UMTS to middleware, application
servers and mobile applications development as well as deployment.
The company is a development partner for vendors such as Nokia,
Intel, PalmOS, Motorola, Nextel International Inc, and Ericsson.

Testing Equipment Bags Technology Award

Product News has selected OTS9000 optical test system from
Tektronix a provider of optical network test and monitoring
equipment for a 2000 Technology Award based on its significant
contribution to the optical industry.
Fiberoptic Product News editors selected the award nominees
in each of five categories based on design, technological
innovation, and usefulness. The publication's readers were
asked to vote on the "top product", resulting in
the OTS9000 receiving the award for test equipment.NM

To Develop Cable Modems With Samsung
Conexant
Systems has entered into an agreement with Samsung Electronics
to develop a range of cable modem products using Conexant's
InfoSurge family of broadband communication ICs and software.
Cone-xant's InfoSurge family features the industry's only
single-chip programmable cable modem device designed to meet
the needs and standards of the global marketplace.
SCM120R external Ethernet cable modem, the first Conexant-based
product in Samsung's portfolio has received CableLabs' certification.

Begins India Operations
Ittiam
Systems Pvt. Ltd. has launched its India operations. Headquartered
in Bangalore, the venture is represented in the U.S.A and
the UK.
Ittiam is focused on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) based
systems in wireline, wireless audio-speech and video-imaging
markets. DSP systems are
the core of new age devices from mobile phones, digital modems,
MP3 players, digital still cameras, palm tops to high end
disk drives, motor control and so on. NM
D-Link
To Network XLRI Jamshedpur And IIT Khargpur
D-Link
has bagged the contract to network the Xavier Labour Relations
Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur and IIT Khargpur. The Jamshedpur
based management school has a 750-node campus wide network
with managed switches and fibre optic backbone while IIT Khargpur
has a 4000 node hostel network, UTP cabling and will see 28
kilometers of fibre optic cable with fibre accessories. The
cost of the entire project is estimated at Rs. 1.5 crore.
Other key institutions in the east, which D-Link has networked,
are the Asiatic Society, National Library, Kolkata and IDCOL
Software, Orissa and so on. D-Link is also a communication
partner for XLRI, which is using D-Link's active and passive
components. The cost of the project is estimated to be in
the range of Rs. 45 lakhs. NM

Updates Rainmail Intranet Server

based ICSoft has launched a new version of its product Rainmail
Intranet Server, which helps integrate a corporate LAN with
Internet. Based on Red Hat Linux, Rainmail Intranet Server
offers integrated internal and external messaging through
e-mail. The server also features firewalls and anti-virus
protection toolkit.
Rainmail Intranet Server offers the flexibility of connecting
to the Internet using dial-up lines, cable modems or leased
lines. ICSoft claims this to be the only product to offer
the same set of features in all the above scenarios. Rainmail
Intranet Server can be installed and maintained by small firms
that do not have dedicated technical personnel. Rainmail Intranet
Server provides additional functionality in the form of a
Web server for building dynamic intranets, a file server for
storing company data and packet filtering firewall for protection
against IP spoofing and DOS attacks. Additionally, it also
provides you with "Email Domains"they help
corporates implement intranet and VPN solutions without investing

And Conexant Strike Alliance
Conexant
Systems and Motorola have entered into an agreement to define,
develop and manufacture system silicon solutions for broadband
communications devices.
As part of the agreement, Conexant will supply standard cable
modem chipsets to Motorola's Broadband Communications Sector
and will support Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector
as a second source for these devices. In addition, Conexant
and Motorola will collaborate to create new, customized silicon
solutions for cable modems, set-top terminals and Voice-over-IP
(VoIP) products. These silicon solutions will be produced
and sold by Conexant and Motorola's Semiconductor Products
Sector to Motorola's Broadband Communications Sector. NM

Development Centre In Bangalore
Intel
Corporation has opened the Intel Solution Center in Bangalore
to accelerate deployment of e-business applications on Intel-based
servers. The center will provide solution providers and system
integrators solutions for e-business and networking, ranging
from server hardware, network infrastructure, operating systems,
middleware, databases to e-business application packages.
This will be followed by the opening of 15 solution centers
worldwide in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.
The new Intel Solution Center will provide hardware, software,
lab testing equipment, engineering services that solution
providers and system integrators will use to validate and
deploy e-business and networking solutions in conjunction
with leading industry suppliers. NM
